Brief 9 : Beacons festival

OPEN CALLS 2014

Beacons Festival is once more inviting submissions from the brightest and best artists from around the UK, and beyond, for this year’s festival Arts Programme. Every year we present an opportunity for artists working in all disciplines to showcase their work to over 7500 festival-goers. We’re looking for work that captivates and amazes, that challenges perceptions and plays with the unique context of our 3 day party, the Dales landscape, and our awesome festival audience!

This year we have 3 special calls for work; our ever-popular general Arts Open Call, a new collaboration with Yorkshire Dance for dance and performance work, and a call for outdoor video visuals in partnership with Lumen. Each call includes a bursary scheme, which will provide financial support for selected artists.

To apply, simply read the information below and complete the relevant online application form. More information about the festival and previous years’ Arts Programmes can be found via the ‘More Info’ link below.

If you wish to apply in a different format, would like a Word version of the form, or have a question about your application, email Sarah Bevin via art@greetingsfrombeacons.com

The deadline for all calls is midnight on Friday 21 March.

ARTS OPEN CALL

From existing pieces, to new projects devised especially for Beacons, we’re seeking proposals in all of the following categories:

Site-wide or virtual games

Roaming and promenade performance

Installations (indoor and outdoor)

Workshops

Spoken word and performance poetry (individuals and collectives)

Talks and performance lectures

Artist films

Cabaret and comedy

Temporary curated spaces around the site

There is a small Bursary Fund of £3000 to support artists bringing or creating work for the festival. Work will be selected in early April.

DANCE AT BEACONS

In Partnership with Yorkshire Dance

Since its inception Beacons Festival has showcased a hand picked selection of roaming performance around the festival site, from the annual Chicken Shop Shakespeare to last year’s larger-than-life #Visitors by Jordan Massarella Dance. This year, for the first time, Beacons is working in partnership with Yorkshire Dance to offer the most exciting and innovative performance projects the opportunity to appear at this year’s festival!

A small number of selected projects will get access to free rehearsal space to develop the piece, courtesy of Yorkshire Dance, and a bursary fund is available to support towards travel, production costs and expenses.

VIDEO VISUALS

In Partnership with Lumen

We’re teaming up once more with Leeds-based AV specialists Lumen to launch a dazzling display of visual projections around the festival site through the long Beacons nights! We’re inviting proposals from animators, graphic artists and filmmakers for films to be shown outdoors, projected by the Lumen team on to huge structures around the Beacons site.

The call is open for both existing work and new projects made especially for Beacons. There are a small number of bursaries available to support more ambitious projects.
