Brief 6 : Bar La Rumba : Final Screen print

Today I have been working in the print studio and I finally finished and framed the print. I am pleased with how it came out as I managed to get the textured effect the bar wanted. I also chose a certain paper that helped give the ink that imperfection. Overall I am happy with the print however I could have worked on the registration of the print slightly better, I guess this adds to the imperfect aesthetic the bar had asked for.

The colours also came out well to as I had to mix the them to match the digital copy of the design. The white frame I choice also balances out well with the design.

I am now waiting for a response from the bar after sending these photos below to them. I hope their response it positive!

Brief 6 : Bar La Rumba : Colour seperation

I intend the screen print to be a 3 colour print. Therefore I had to separate the colours separately in photoshop. It was a tricky process at first as I really confused myself at one stage. I got there in the end and printed out three separate sheets to expose onto a screen.

Textures

The bar expressed that they wanted the print to have imperfections as they liked prints with that aesthetic to help enhance this look, I added a few textures in Photoshop to give the print a couple speckled look. Another way of doing this would be to apply less ink to the screen or even use a textured paper stock.

Brief 6 : Bar La Rumba : Final Design

I quickly put the vector components together and placed it in the format I decided on based the frame I would like to mount the artwork into. I quite like the rectangular format and I think as a composition it works really well.

Here are some close up of the artwork before I separate the layers ready to send off to print.

Brief 6 : Bar La Rumba : Vectors

Bar La Rumba enjoyed my sketches there for I spent an evening playing around with some vectors based on my initial sketches. I even got some sort of colour scheme going from the go which I plan to expand later. However so far I feel it fits the vibe quite well.

I aim to make this a quick brief so I want to get in the print room as soon as possible.

Here are some of the components of the composition so far.

Brief 6 : Bar La Rumba Print : Initial Sketches

Bar La Rumba were quite open to the design and wanted me to be in control of the whole process, however I didn't want to waste time on something they didn't like so I quickly did some sketches of my idea and sent it off to them via email. When I got the go ahead I exposed the screens ready to print.

Below are some quick sketches I did on the train. I sent them the images when I got home. My idea is to print on more of an unusual format as I have been looking into frame sizes. I came across a few long landscape frames, something a little different from the common A sizes.

Brief 6 : Bar La Rumba

Bar La Rumba is a new bar due to open in 2014 in Bournemouth, the company is a start up business so they have a small budge when it comes to the interiors. I was asked to create a screen print for the bar therefore I looked at my favourite tapas mexican resturant Wahaca. The restaurants that I have been to are mainly in London, where they have super cool interiors and murals painted on the wall.

Below are some examples of interiors I particularly like. I believe that this is valuable research and could inform direction the screen print.
