Brief 1 : Preparing images for dialogue invites

Invite design

Below shows our A5 invites mockups we made a few weeks ago that have slits in to hold the A6 postcards. Earlier this week I found an invite that shares the same idea to us that are for a Dylan Couter exhibition. The use of monotype also looks familiar to the typeface choice we have decided upon for the Yoke branding, therefore it would be great to do some along similar lines because it works so well. I really like how the type sits behind the image, giving it an extra layer.

We intend the A6 postcards to be screen printed, therefore the imagery we will use will be our interpretation of the brief that we wrote for those who want to submit to the exhibition.

Short summary of the brief

'Submissions can take any form of the theme. It could reflect directly on past conversations, forms of interaction or it could spread further afield to what you think communication is today.'

My response

I thought about how we communicate today as it is very heavily based on technology. A lot of the imagery / examples I found didn't look very interesting, as I wanted something with a bit more character. For example I looked into hand written letters, morse code and pixel type we used to see on our old phones. There is also sign language and protest which could broaden the theme of our exhibition. Finally I found an old photograph of a young teenage girl talking on a house phone, today she would own her own wireless mobile phone.

Examples

Here are some examples of how the designs could be mixed and matched through the screen printing process. Nathan and myself intend to use a set of interesting colours, however that is yet to be decided. We also plan (like in the brief) to mix and match our own work with each other in the same way we want our contributors to be.
